February 24, 2000 - CEBIT Show, Hall 1 - Booth 7N7, Hanover, Germany. Dunord Technologies announced the availability of a new software product designed to utilize color in order to automatically index or gather information from business documents in colour based document management systems.

Colindex locates and extracts zoned fields that are marked in colour, printed in a different colour or highlighted with a highlighter. It then removes the highlighted area or converts the colour and passes the black and white bitmapped image to the calling program, where it can be collected to produce a synopsis or be recognized for automated indexing. The software, named Colindex, supports up to seven different colours to enable multi-level indexes or information to be identified.

Colindex is the second software product developed by Dunord to utilize colour based images more effectively. The first, Colerase, allows forms processing vendors to remove any colour background eliminating the need for dropout lamps or forms redesign.

For example a paralegal or attorney in a law firm working on legal transcripts may highlight or circle key fields or sentences with a specific color. Colindex can then automatically extract these fields, which can be passed under programmatic control to create synopses of the case and/or to OCR to make automatic indexes without manual typing.
